Advanced
AMR Technologies is a subsidiary of Peabody, MA based AES Corp.,
(not in any way related or affiliated with NYSE listed AES Corporation
of Arlington, Virginia).
AES Corp was founded in 1974 as a
contract-engineering firm providing PCB design and manufacturing
services. In 1976, under contract to the U.S. Government, AES Corp.
began developing products for specialized security applications.
This expanded from not only providing security component products,
but also to providing security installation and design services
to US Government facilities around the world. This family of products
and services fueled the companies' growth for over two decades.
In the early 1990s, AES Corp. responded
to a U.S. Government request to develop a wireless communications
network that would serve the security communications needs of Americans
in remote and often hostile parts of the world. The challenge was
to create a 2-way data network that required no dedicated radio
towers, no reliance on local phone or cellular providers, met high
reliability standards, and was easy to install. As a result, AES
Corp. developed and patented the first long-range wireless mesh
network, known as AES-IntelliNet. AES-IntelliNet technology quickly
became the industry leader in the Fire and Security Alarm industry
in the 1990s and serves other market needs such as Home Arrest Monitoring,
Vehicle Tracking and Vending Machine management.
Using AES-IntelliNet technology,
AES developed a new family of products in 2000 specifically to serve
the energy information and control needs of the Energy Management
industry. These products monitor, report and control energy usage
in situations that require real time, wide area, low cost energy
management solutions that were previously not practical.
Advanced AMR Technologies, a business
unit of AES Corporation, was established to serve this market.
